I made another experiment, and maybe there's a race somewhere after all,
at least for pidgin.

One of my jabber connections is made over a vpn (openvpn, I don't think
it matters). The vpn connection is started by the networkmanager
dispatcher (don't know if now networkmanager is able to activate vpn
connections automatically, and if can activate more than one at a time),
after the start of a privoxy instance.
I inverted the sequence to make openvpn start before privoxy. pidgin
didn't crash at resume, but it didn't reconnect.

Any idea on how to investigate further?
