On rawhide, updated today:

You update infrequently if you're just now seeing this a month after the fact.

rpm -q firefox
firefox-3.0-0.beta4.35.nightly20080306.fc9.i386

firefox
Error: Platform version '1.9b3pre' is not compatible with
minVersion >= 1.9b5pre
maxVersion <= 1.9b5pre

Discussed many times on list(s) and in the bug with alias 'xulrunner-cpio' (if memory serves it's 433096 or 430096 or something like that).

I've gone back over the list headers since the Alpha 9 release. I don't see anything obviously relevant. I also googled.

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=433096 deals with the unpacking of the nightly xulrunner package. But yum installs xulrunner just fine. I've missed how that's relevant.

I've now looked over the xulrunner bugs, but none seems relevant.

For future reference, please note that xulrunner is the important package for firefox, and any bug report for firefox without including the xulrunner version is largely useless.

OK. I thought there might be something other than firefox, which is why I said I'd upgraded to yesterday's rawhide. Without being involved in each of the packages, it's hard to keep up with the dependencies.

In any event, have I misconfigured something, or is this some bug in firefox/xulrunner?

I'm pretty sure that it's the xulrunner-cpio bug, but in the case it's not, you might be using mismatched bitness of firefox vs xulrunner. They both need to be i386 or x86_64.

Either way,

rpm -e --nodeps xulrunner
yum install xulrunner.i386

should fix it.
