Re: preload

Just a question about how to benchmark Gnome startup..
i tried adding this:

    echo "Timing START:" >> /home/mark/GnomeBench
    date '+%s.%N' >> /home/mark/GnomeBench

the file GnomeBench is created (by hand) and has mark.mark permissions.

to (just the top of the page) and around the lines that actually
(should) start gnome:
xinitrc
Xsession

But it doesn't seem to add a thing to the GnomeBench file...
Any help would be welcome.

And a list of the programs i intend to benchmark with and without preload:
- Gnome
- Nautilus
- Firefox
- Pidgin
- Totem
- Perhaps also OpenOffice Word

I intend to bench every app 4 times:
1. right after a reboot (no preload)
2. than again (no preload)
3. right after reboot (with preload)
4. than again (with preload)

And than put it in a graph.

That should give a decent view of the performance increase (or even decrease).

Thanx,
Mark
