I have simple idea.
PackageKit in its search results component shows items with package-x-generic icon:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Interviews/PackageKit?action="">
I think that SPEC should have "Icon: " filed which would tell PK and others to display that icon from current icon theme.
Then PK instead of generic package icon would should eg Firefox icon, gedit, gnome-terminal, etc.
