OK Can't help you there.  For the nVidia cards, the latest binary driver
fixes the brightness button issue.  Buttons also work with the vesa
driver, but the nv driver *still* doesn't work at all
(https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=249367).
