Great - how will you like it when the gas/brake pedals are reversed on your next model?

A new init system is likely going to have properties that inittab isn't capable of expressing.

What does that have to do with maintaining interfaces? If someone can't write a backwards-compatible interface why should you trust them to be able to improve something?

Users will have to learn.

Or not.
