OK so getting PulseAudio to work involves (to me): System/Settings/Hardware/Sound, second tab, activate "Sound Server (ESD)".

So, I'm filing:

(Get that changed to PulseAudio)

But we need something else too: if the user logs in and has (like me) deactivated ESD previously, s/he should be prompted to activate PulseAudio (NOT ESD) to have sound working properly with apps. (Because packages are now adapting to PA.) Could have a "No thanks, I'm sure, don't prompt me again" tickbox. ... similar to the popups requesting you to rename folders in $HOME when you switch language.
