Most people don't use fedora at home, and as such don't care about yum
at all.  A lot I know did, years ago.  They went to Gentoo, Ubuntu or
OSX since.

Incidentally, how would you install everything needed to able to
recompile anaconda in one yum command?

Oh, joy, f8 just shot its own partition.  Looks like I have to
reinstall and hope it doesn't do it again.
