Just out of interest, what does your /etc/hosts.deny contain?

The rpcbind package changelog mentions tcp_wrappers related changes
in rpcbind-0.1.4-8.fc8, but your problem is not reproducible here.

$ rpm -q rpcbind nfs-utils
rpcbind-0.1.4-11.fc8
nfs-utils-1.1.0-6.fc8
