Is there a middle-sized answer maybe that might explain why

still wasn't fixed? The bug is about this fact:

$ grep NTFS /boot/config-2.6.23-0.217.rc9.git1.fc8
# CONFIG_NTFS_FS is not set

Sure, ntfs-3g is around -- but some people still prefer the in-kernel
driver and it still gets downloaded from a well know 3rd party repo as
kmod a lot.
