This doesn't seem right to me.
do you have the yum kmod plugin installed?
Nope, just these:
# rpm -qa 'yum*'

yum-3.2.1-1.fc7
If you install yum-kernel-module
does it start doing the right thing?

I should be the 'yum-fedorakmod' plugin, if you want to use 'kmod'
kernel modules.
