as a zany idea:

f8 -> rsyslog is included, does not obsolete sysklogd, will use
syslog.conf if it exists. throws up a warning if it is present and
sysklogd is installed, too when it runs.
f9 -> rsyslog obsoletes sysklogd

a transition period is such a crazy thing :)
