Surely the steps involving "make" can figure out which platform you are
on, ie, the directions ought to be "Use the command make", full stop.
If not, it's a pretty severe regression from the Red Hat infrastructure
I'm used to.

(Platform-specific bugs are another issue of course, but these docs
don't seem to intend to dip their toes in that deep water.)
