The 3199 kernel seems to have some strange problems on i386. 1) Spends quite a bit of time at startup at "Press I for interactive startup" before the udev line appears. 2) The system clock wasn't set properly (ntp had problems?) 3) The beagle desktop search applet died when it started 4) Java (the Sun version) segfaulted Lots of processes such as firefox continued to work ok.
