If entering this in a browser, you did substitute some valid arch like i386 for $basearch, correct? When I leave arch=$basearch in the mirrorlist URL (or any random string, actually) I get the thousands of global lines, but when I substitute i386 or x86_64 it spits out a few mirrors as expected.
