Well if they take it out they break the userspace API so it'll get vetoed, and it'll break all the gnome/kde userspace for good. If they take it out and let anything through then bugtraq will receive drive destroying tools the next day so that isn't viable. The gentoo folks did a very nice fs interface for customising the sanitizer but for some reason it never got upstream.
