Well, cdrecord should still be able to write a disc using generic commands
so aborting when the vendor specific commands don't work is a bit extreme.

thats true , but even so this would be a bug, some plextor drivers have features to make sure the burned disk meets some kind of quality standard but this will require this commands to work. without them a 100$ plextor burner is allmost the same as a 25$ no name one :(
