I'm running FC5 right now with this patch re-added, and it solves BZ
#197145 "Kernel 2.6.17-1.2139_FC5 freezes System completely". I
looked at the rawhide kernel-2.6.17-1.2445.fc6 and noticed that the
patch is missing there too, so I'd like to bring this to the attention
of the developers so that the issue is fixed in devel/FC6 as well.

You do know that by doing this, you prevent DRI from ever getting fixed
for that hardware, right?
Ok, you've got my attention. What can I do to troubleshoot this issue
and help find the solution? Do I need to set up GDB remote serial
debugging?
Serial console or ssh. Enable drm debugging (echo 1 >
/sys/module/drm/parameters/debug), and get your kernel messages spewing
somewhere you can see them, either syslog or serial or whatever.
That should at least give us some idea of what's going wrong before the
system hangs. Of course, if it's not actually wedging the machine but
just hanging X, then this all gets much easier.
