Networked sound is a very big concern. I'm working for a company that
helps schools setup LTSP thin client computer labs. Lack of networked
sound would be a showstopper for adoption.

The Alan Cox review of the APIs and code was discouraging to me. But
with an active upstream, this may well be the way of the future.

I'm all for esd going away (I regularly have to switch to a VT and
killall esd in order to login or logout of my desktop) but hope we will
move to a better system rather than repeating the same mistakes with a
different code base.
