Why, exactly, would the HTTP server care about the way firefox renders it's
pages?
It wouldn't. Just like it doesn't care about what distribution people
are using, or most of the other stuff in the user agent. The Mozilla
Corporation requested this change. In theory, it could know whether to
show you MathML or a PDF version of the MathML since enabling pango
breaks MathML right now.
