In stock Fedora Core 5 test 3 with a mkinitrd-5.0.26 created initramfs the dmraid was not properly activated. I did a fresh install of FC5 test and upgraded to mkinitrd-5.0.28 inside the rescue environment. I rebuilt the initial ram disk and I'm happy to report that it fixes the problem.
