If you have a video card which is assigned the "vesa" driver
from the above test, then it is either not supported by the
drivers, or we're missing a PCI ID to driver mapping for that
card/chip.

I have a Sapphire ATI X550 card, it has never been properly detected by xorg, it picks vesa driver, but qll works great if I add a "ChipId 0x5b62" and set the driver to radeon in the device section.

I did tag this onto a fd.o/xorg bugzilla that was requesting missing radeon PCIDs around the X11R7RC timeframe

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4284#c3

Would be nice if it gets added

Just a very quick by the by .... I'm not expecting h/w openGL (without the fglrx drivers) but with ati/radeon drivers should I be getting Mesa as a software fallback, as I'm not ...
