I took a quick look at your xperf program source code, and noticed you use XSync, try replacing that with XFlush.

XSync is much slower and it might well be that the newer Xorg version tries harder to make sure really all X-protocol state has been processed, thus being even slower.

XFlush should be sufficient for your test.
