Ok, so this is a dmraid which is BIOS assisted, and so we'd treat it as
1 disk...

#2 in my caveats is specifically about bios-supported raid.  Putting
perfectly normal logical volumes or software raids on top of dmraid
devices should work fine.

If you can't afford to lose data, rawhide isn't for you.
