All I asked for was a simple way to download source package and install
them.

I don't think it should do more. Running rpmbuild will show you the
dependancies misisng, and those can be 'yum install'ed.

I wasn't looking for some IDE. I was looking for a method to install a
source rpm without manually needing to use ftp. It seemed yum would be
a good candidate for that, as people expect it in the package manager,
and not in some additional package.

In fact, I'd say that rpm-build is currently missing a dependancy on
yumdownloader now :)

yum is a package manager and should install packages, nothing more, but
also nothing less. source packages are packages too.
