I think FC5 will be shipping g-p-m by default, so this should solve your
problems. There is a yum repo for FC4 users too.

What's the solution for non-graphics mode challenged? There's probably no use working on acpid now, if it's going to be replaced -- but if it's replaced, the replacement should not assume X.

(I'm just using acpid to put to suspend-to-mem and hopefully at some point suspend-to-disk.)
