Thank you for the link, it helps understand where this request is
coming from. I'd evaluate the motivation for the change as very weak.

In the past we changed some terms when we were worried that they are
offensive. But this is not the case here. It's true that we're using
the term in a way that has little to do with the original meaning, but
we're certainly not making fun of the original idea or anything else.
Instead, in a completely normal process, we're applying a term from
the outside world to the world of programming with a meaning that is
only loosely connected. We have bytes and bits, words, trees,
directories, folders, files, firewalls, sockets, pools, streams,
children and parents, dead and alive, sleeping or hibernating, we
kill and orphan, boot and kick and so on. Let's keep the karma term
for good karma.
