Fedora Media Writer: Need testing on Windows

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hi,

I have been working on rewriting Windows support in Fedora Media Writer for the past 2-3 weeks and I need more people to test this to verify whether it works as expected. I have a VM with Windows 11 and an older laptop with Windows 10 and both do work for me, but I also got a report that it still doesn't work properly.

What needs to be tested?
1) ISO image writing
2) Device restoration
Ideally 1) and 2) repeatedly, in different combinations, like write an image, restore, write an image or write an image and write an image again without restoring the device.

How to get the new FMW?
You can find the latest installer here: https://jgrulich.fedorapeople.org/FedoraMediaWriter-win64.exe

NOTE: while I believe it should be safe to use and that it doesn't damage your drive, it might be better to use some older USB drive just to be on the safe side. In case the restoration doesn't work in FMW, you will still be able to fix it on Linux by writing a new partition table, but the goal of this new FMW Windows support is that you don't have to.

Also, in case there is a failure, two log files "MediaWriter.txt" and "MediaWriter-helper.txt" should be in your documents directory and will be helpful to include when reporting back that something doesn't work.

Thank you for your help!

Regards,
