I wish somebody more knowledgeable elaborated about pros and cons. The thing is that at some point, the desktop files were used as and ID and the ID should not be changed no matter what as I was told multiple times during the past few days.

One "downside" I can think of is that such change should be coordinated with upstream, which might or might not be open to such change. But it would still deserve to have some good arguments.

Maybe changing the .desktop file is harmless and good thing after all. I don't know 🤷
