That is the same argument they used to justify desupporting plasma-
workspace-x11 and kwin-x11 in favor of their Wayland counterparts.

I do not see a valid reason for removing working drivers, especially if (or 
as long as) the replacement does not work out of the box (e.g., as long as 
nomodeset does not automatically bring up a working driver setup without 
additional arguments such as vga=…).
