I am orphaning harvey[1], a graphical application that calculates and
visualizes color contrast, checking a given set of colors for WCAG
contrast compliance. The Fedora package is in excellent condition, but
upstream has asked me politely not to maintain it in Fedora[2],
preferring for users to get it only via the upstream-maintained
flatpaks[3] on the ElementaryOS AppCenter.
While upstream cooperation and permission (beyond the license itself)
are not required in order to package open-source software in Fedora –
and in some cases there are good reasons to package software that
upstream would prefer we didn’t – in this case I choose to respect the
upstream maintainer’s wishes.
