clean/safe rm of pcre1 (8x) from F40 distro & devel?

the most recent update to F40 pkgs: pcre2* 10.44-1 caused a minor headache here.
easy workaround then, and all good now.

but did cause me to look at the supposedly-deprecated-since-f38 pcre, and making sure it's cleanly out of systems & devel here.

here, i found,

rpm -qa | grep pcre | sort
		pcre2-10.44-1.fc40.x86_64
		pcre2-devel-10.44-1.fc40.x86_64

		pcre-8.45-1.fc40.6.x86_64
		pcre-cpp-8.45-1.fc40.6.x86_64

	rpm -q --whatrequires pcre
		no package requires pcre

looks clean. should be ez nuf to rm.

but

	dnf remove pcre

??? Remove 336 Packages

??? Freed space: 3.2 G

that's certainly not a good option :-/

*CAN* pcre1 (v8x) be safely removed from F40?

if so, how's recommended?

and, what am I missing in my queries that fails to show why/where it's dependency-tied to ~ 3.2G of pkg?
