That's my general generic goal, yes,
progressively more secure *defaults*.
As long as crypto libraries don't drop legacy code,
it should be enableable back through crypto-policies.

Not only will it, obviously, still be enabled in LEGACY,
(the proposal doesn't touch LEGACY at all),
I'll also provide a subtler FEDORA40 policy
for those less happy to downgrade their entire host's security.
And custom policies also exist, of course.
The choice is yours.

No, LEGACY is for lagging behind the world / DEFAULT for a few years,
not for unbounded backwards compatibility.
But this is a different conversation we've been over countless times before.

Indeed. It's not trivial to implement a clean envvar-based dispatch or
something,
