If you're serious about developing Java applications, you're not going to use an uncertified JDK to do it. Every customer uses a certified runtime and you must ensure to be compliant with it. And leaving OpenJDK is an even worse idea after all the efforts to keep OpenJDK as full OSS and emancipate it from Oracle governance. It's the best we have and what has been arduously fought for. So, OpenJDK is an asset for Fedora (and all the other distributions), thanks to the Fedora/Red Hat (or Red Hat / Fedora?) Java team. I don't quite yet overlook the practical implications of the proposal and am a little bit uncomfortable. If Fedora X uses newer versions of gcc and various libraries than Fedora X-2 (or even Epel = Fedora X-(4+), I imagine that could get problematic. But if I understand the change proposal correctly, everything is already tested and working so far. And if there's ever a problem, hopefully we'll discover it in time in Rawhide and the Java team find a solution. -- Peter Boy https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/User:Pboy PBoy@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Timezone: CET (UTC+1) / CEST /UTC+2) Fedora Server Edition Working Group member Fedora Docs team contributor and board member Java developer and enthusiast _______________________________________________ devel mailing list -- devel@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx To unsubscribe send an email to devel-leave@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Fedora Code of Conduct: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/project/code-of-conduct/ List Guidelines: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Mailing_list_guidelines List Archives: https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/devel@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Do not reply to spam, report it: https://pagure.io/fedora-infrastructure/new_issue
