In both cases (well, six - tried it at runlevels 3 (no RHGB, so the ATI proprietary driver never was loaded), 5 (switched to console) and 5 (graphical), the computer never turned itself off, but without vga=791 I get more error messages. Note that I always have to pass the option 'no_timer_check' to the kernel, otherwise > 50% CPU is gobbled by hardware and software interrupts and the clock runs super-fast (and processes super-slow) - Michel
