Well we still have to end with SIGKILL because SIGABRT is ignorable, so the new proposed behavior is SIGTERM -> wait until timeout -> SIGABRT -> SIGKILL. This is what the TimeoutStopFailureMode=abort configuration that Lennart suggested already does.
