Another observation:
Fedora 37's last successful build's build.log [1]
contains this log message:

The same part in current build attempts build.logs contain this

libEGL warning: MESA-LOADER: failed to open swrast:
/usr/lib64/dri/swrast_dri.so: cannot open shared object file: No such
file or directory (search paths /usr/lib64/dri, suffix _dri)
[many more identica libEGL warnings]
...
So, ... no SDL warning this time, but one from mesa/libEGL.
From what I can gather, formerly, "make check" seems to have failed
hard as running povray failed to open SDL.
Now, povray starts and waits for input (AFAICT, mouse input is necessary
and keyboard input doesn't work at all ;)
Makes me think there are several bugs interacting.
A packaging bug/dependency issue involving libEGL/mesa, a bug in SDL
(keyboard input) and a povray issue.
