It uses pcre, upstream has not had a commit for over 4 years, and disabling the module that requires pcre causes build failure because other core components depend on it. It shipped its own bundled pcre as an alternative, which sounds like an even worse idea than linking against a deprecated system library. If anyone want to take it up, be my guest, otherwise I suppose it will just get reaped automatically in a few weeks.
