Ouch just had a bad experience booting 2.6.12-1.1398_FC4 built by
gcc 4.0.1 for Pegasos II PPC arch.
After creating zImage.initrd.chrp I'm getting gunzip errors from the kernel:
(everything is fine with gcc 3.4.x BTW)
chrpboot starting: loaded at 0x00800000
initial ramdisk moving 0x3e390000 <- 0x009cd000 (1c61f3 bytes)
gunzipping (0x00010000 <- 0x00807ce8:0x009cc710)...inflate returned
-5 msg: <NULL>

Yes - their 1 CD Pegasos installer is basically enough to partition
your hard disk and
untar a minimal YDL install - after that you are supposed to yum to
get the rest.
But, hey, that's not necessarily a bad way to do it...

1. Didn't have an installer so used one of the pre-installed Linuxen
to rsync an image over (from a PowerMac G4). With my new kernel the
whole thing works amazingly well. The chrp image can be booted by
yaboot
and directly by OF.
I've recently found out that YDL also doesn't have a working installer
(I was under the impression that they did, but didn't send it upstream).
They have *plans* to do that, but no plans on working about it openly
from what I gather, so we may be doing a duplication of work here
