Package downgrades on upgrade from F35 to F36 + categorized list

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hi all,

Yes, it's that time of the year again. Looks like it's not *that* bad
this time round, but the fact that this keeps happening probably means
some of our processes are broken ... (or, since some usernames are
attached to multiple entries in the list below, maybe it's just a lack
of understanding).

There's three categories that are concerning to me:

- The "mass rebuild merged an older build and superseded a newer one
that happened in the meantime" issue should be concerning. I filed a
releng ticket about this with all cases I found, since this also means
in some cases that the wrong version is tagged into rawhide, as well.

- The "I'm building for F36 after bodhi has been activated for it, but
I'm not going to submit an update" cases. Not sure if we could warn
packagers somehow that their builds for "Branched" will now be lost to
the ether unless they also submit a bodhi update.

- The "I'm going to build this update for F34, F35, F37/Rawhide,
EPEL7, EPEL8, and EPEL9, but never wonder about the missing number
between F35 and F37" cases are almost funny. :)

I included a categorized list of package downgrades between F35 and
F36 below. I tried to filter out cases that are due to "package is
already in updates-testing in F35 but the F36 update for the same
version hasn't been pushed out yet".

I have filed a releng ticket about the mis-tagged / mass-branching
failures / mass-rebuild-merge-failures:
https://pagure.io/releng/issue/10708

The question is how to proceed with the F36 updates that are clearly
just "missing" or have been overlooked by the package maintainer. Are
there provenpackagers who want to help me plug those holes? :)

Fabio
