Thanks for your help with this Miro, I did intend to add support to
older versions later.  However I've reverted this change for now in
response to concerns raised about compatibility.  The package split
stays but it is a Requires now instead of a Recommends so there should
be functionally no difference compared to how it was before.  We'll
give it another shot later, once we've taken a better look at (and
handled) all the things we need to fix before making the dependency a
weak one.
