This shouldn't be the case. Unless there's a bug, grub2 may be
installed an unused. If it interferes with sd-boot, please file
a bug.

The problem is /usr/bin/kernel-install. If the grub2* packages are installed the kernel-install script uses /boot for kernels/configs. systemd-boot uses /boot/efi/$machine_id.
