Expect a factor 50 slowdown with QEMU software emulation. (At least that was 
the factor when I did 64-bit builds in qemu-system-x86_64 on a 32-bit x86 
CPU back in the day. Usermode emulation, which was not available for 
emulating x86_64 at the time, might be marginally faster.)
