Sounds like the reasonable thing to do in the situation where Xwayland is still evolving but the other (huge) parts of the codebase are not. Consuming Xwayland independently seems much better than gathering an endless list of patches in downstream distro repos. Do you have any plan how to pick specific commits that are "good"? Will those points be somehow coordinated between distros?
