This API has been there a long time.

Some software requires that the page size be known at compile time, e.g. WebKit's JavaScriptCore. Therefore getpagesize() is really not good enough.

We could use getpagesize() to test the page size at compile time, but it would fail if cross-compiling, so instead we just hardcode guesses in the code. For aarch64 RHEL has some hacky patch that can never go upstream to change the page size.

I don't have much good to say about this situation.
