+1 for side-tag approach. The only question I have is who is going to coordinate those updates? Also, if there are better ways to coordinate package builds across disjoint packager groups I'm open to suggestions. (jbig2dec does not version ABI properly, upstream wants it like that and has new checks which counteract ABI stability patches)
