Not encrypting /swap makes your disk encryption partly pointless. Your
PC will use swap if you want or not. If your device is powerless, your
swap can contain secret informations, you do not want to give others. So
encrypting /swap is mandatory from a security pov.

If I understood the original email correctly, swap is intended to be an LV on the encrypted VG, so it is encrypted.
