Users should definitely have a freedom of choice, and as Samuel pointed out in this thread, the package is not installed by default, so should you find it unsuitable for your system (either a different DE or missing ffmpeg), you can simply uninstall it and replace it with any of the numerous alternatives already previously mentioned.
