(thinking about) unretiring xmlbeans

xmlbeans [1,2] got retired because of lack of maitainers.
It's used by diffoscope now, so I'm thinking about adopting it.
Any major reasons not to? Fedora was at 2.6.0, upstream is now at
3.1.0, so it'd be definitely some effort to update...
