Naively this makes me think that
something significant changed inside the sqlite package when it was

Was there ever a published sqlite3 package for version 3.1.2? The
problem could be associated with internal sqlite library change
between 3.1.2 and 3.0.8.

I intentionally packaged the sqlite3 carried into core separately from sqlite-2, because as the upstream author of the sqlite package notes, in his doco on on his website, the two may happily co-exist, and carry differing sonames.

The 'latest and greatest mentality' folks felt they knew best, and that 'there should be only one', that people should not use sqlite-2 under its previous name, and broke things without a transition plan. Welcome to RawHide ;)
